Het kunstenaarsinititiatief Cakehouse (Lieven Segers & Michèle Matyn) presenteert i.s.m. Het Bos: ​Un Voyage Autour de ma Chambre, Een Tentoonstelling over het Stilstaand Reizen.

Deze expo wil, geïnspireerd door het gelijknamige boek van Xavier De Maistre, de avontuurlijke tochten belichten die de kunstenaar maakt bij het creëren van zijn werk, alsook de verplaatsing die hij hiermee veroorzaakt in het hoofd van de toeschouwer.

Syria Seriously?! 2.0.

"The Syrian Crisis is the worst humanitarian crisis we have had since the genocide in Rwanda*," proclameerde Antonio Guterres, de UN High Commissioner for refugees op 4 mei 2014.

(*Dat andere confict waarvoor de international gemeenschap té lang zijn ogen afwendde.)

 

De oorlog woedt, al meer dan drie jaar, nog steeds. Het menselijk leed wordt iedere dag erger. Elke minuut slaat een Syrische familie op de vlucht en het leed van de 9 miljoen vluchtelingen verdwijnt achter de (eenzijdige) berichtgevingen over de Islamitische Staat.

Omdat we ons nog steeds vragen stellen bij het gebrek aan internationale solidariteit (en menselijkheid), organiseren we ook dit jaar een ‘Syria Seriously?! 2.0’.

 

Deze editie zal zich toespitsen op de vluchtelingenproblematiek en, in het bijzonder, de verantwoordelijkheid die de Europese Unie draagt - of verkiest niet te dragen.

Is het rechtvaardig dat de Syrische buurlanden de zwaarste last dragen? Hoe staat Europa deze landen bij? Hoe ver staat het met de Europese regelgeving m.b.t. de Syrische vluchtelingen? Hoe ver reikt onze solidariteit met de mannen, vrouwen en kinderen die hun land ontvluchtten voor een oorlog waar zij allerminst voor gekozen hebben?

Het concept blijft hetzelfde: een Syrische Volxkeuken gevolgd door een debat, live optredens en een feest. En, Constance Proux zal haar fotoreportage ‘Akkar’ voorstellen.

Tijdens het debat zullen de volgende sprekers aan bod komen:

• Pieter Stockmans (Tussen Vrijheid en Geluk) & Roni Hoessein vertellen over hun reis doorheen Turkije en Syrië en focussen daarbij op onderwijs en de rol van de Europese Unie in de problematiek (lees hun reportage hier).

• Constance Proux (fotografe) en Philippine Proux (schrijfster) getuigen over hun zoektocht naar Syrische vluchtelingen in Libanon.

• Relief and Reconciliation licht toe hoe zij vluchtelingen te hulp staan in Akkar, Libanon.

Dit jaar gaan alle opbrengsten naar Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen en Relief and Reconciliation, twee organisaties die zich inspannen voor Syrische vluchtelingen, de eerste in eigen land, de andere aan de Syrische grens met Libanon.

After more than 3 years the war is still raging on. Every minute a Syrian family takes flight. Every day the human suffering increases and the plight of the more than 9 million refugees disappears behind the narrow media coverage on the Islamic State.

Because we are still questioning the lack of international solidarity (and humanity), we are organising a “Syria Seriously?! 2.0.

This edition will focus on the refugee crisis and in particular the responsibility of the European Union and its member states.

Is it justified that the Syria’s neighbouring countries carry the heaviest burden? What is the European Union doing to assist these states? What is the state of European legislation when it comes to Syrian refugees? How far does our solidarity for the Syrian men, women and children that fled their country reach?

The concept will be the same: A Syrian dinner, followed by a debate, live shows and a party. Furthermore, Constance Proux will present her photo-reportage “Akkar”.

The following people will share their experiences during the debate:

• Pieter Stockmans (Tussen Vrijheid en Geluk) & Roni Hoessein will tell about their travels through Turkey and Northern Syria, focusing on education issues and the role of the EU (you can read their stories here).

• Constance Proux (photographer) and Philippine Proux (writer) will unravel their search for Syrian refugees in Libanon and the inexistence of “The Syrian Refugee”.

• Friedrich Bokern (Relief and Reconciliation )will share his experiences with supporting refugees on the ground, in a Lebanese border region with Syria.

All proceedings will go toVluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen and Relief and Reconciliation, two organisations that strive to support Syrian refugees, one at home and one at the Syrian border in Lebanon.
